U of I officials raising money to restore flagpole
CHAMPAIGN - University of Illinois officials are pushing to restore a flagpole that's been at the school's Armory building since the 1920s.
University officials say the flagpole has fallen into disrepair, and that a flag has not been flown from it in many years. However, the school's Department of Military Science is collecting donations to help pay the cost of the project.
The restoration project would remove rust from the flagpole, add a new protective coating, and fix the existing pulley system. The flagpole is located near the university's Armory building, which houses a track and the Reserve Officer Training Corps programs.
Officials say $3,000 of the $25,000 needed to fix the flagpole has been collected.
