Champaign County man found guilty of first-degree murder

URBANA - A Champaign County man has been convicted of first-degree murder in the 2010 death of his brother.

State's Attorney Julia Rietz says a jury returned the guilty verdict against Brian Maggio, 46, shortly before 5:00 p.m. Friday.

Prosecutors say in 2010, Maggio got into an argument with his brother Mark at an IGA store in Tolono that they both owned and operated.  Mark left the store, but prosecutors say Brian followed his brother outside and fatally shot him.

Maggio originally pleaded guilty, but withdrew his plea two years into his 35-year sentence.  He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 11.  He faces a sentence of 45 to 85 years in prison.
