Sidewalk Snow and Ice Removal Requirement in Effect for Champaign

Posted:
CHAMPAIGN - The director of Champaign's Public Works Department has declared that the sidewalk snow and ice removal requirement for Campustown and Downtown areas is in effect.

Under a city ordinance, sidewalks in Campustown and Downtown areas are required to be cleared off no more than 48 hours after the declaration is made by the Public Works Director.  The declaration was made at 10:00 a.m. on February 2, meaning sidewalks will need to be cleared by 10:00 a.m. on February 4.

Owners must keep a path cleared equal to the width of the sidewalk or 48 inches, whichever is less.  Those who own property at a corner must also clear the ramps off, to maintain a path from block to block.  Sidewalks not in compliance with the ordinance will be cleared by city crews at the owner's expense.
