Salvation Army reaches Tree of Lights fundraising goal
DECATUR - Salvation Army officials have announced that the organization's Tree of Lights campaign has reached and surpassed their $400,000 goal.
According to Salvation Army Captain Wes Dalberg, donations for the Tree of Lights campaign totaled $401,392.92. The money was collected through donations at Red Kettle locations, mailed donations, and online credit card donations.
Salvation Army officials say about 40 percent of the group's annual operating budget is raised during this campaign, with the money being used to provide services to those in need throughout the year. Officials also say that 1,175 households received holiday food boxes, 1,080 people received grocery store vouchers, and with the help of Toys for Tots, 18,876 gifts were distributed to 3,146 children throughout this holiday season.
