Authorities confirm body found belongs to U of I student

CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign County Coroner's Office has confirmed that the body found in Tolono Township has been identified as missing University of Illinois student Vicente Mundo.

Mundo's death is currently being investigated by the Champaign County Sheriff's Office, Champaign Police Department, Champaign County Coroner's Office, Champaign County State's Attorney's Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, and the University of Illinois Police Department.

Authorities say Mundo was last seen alive leaving a Champaign apartment on January 25 at about 7:00 p.m.  The Champaign County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to the area of County Road 900N, near the intersection of 1000E, in Tolono Township for a report of a person found unconscious along the roadside.  The Champaign County Coroner's Office has confirmed that the body found has been identified as Mundo.

Authorities say they are treating Mundo's death as a homicide at this time, and are investigating as such.  Police are still looking for Mundo's car, a silver-colored 2006 Acura TL with black-colored rims, dark-tinted windows, and a Chicago Bears Illinois license plate reading 2557 B over D.  We've included images of the car and plate in this article.

Authorities are asking anyone with knowledge of Mundo's activities on the weekend of January 23, or any other useful information, to contact the Champaign County Sheriff's Office at (217) 384-1213.  Individuals can also give information to Crime Stoppers at (217) 373-8477.

At this time, authorities say there is no connection between Mundo's death and Christian Zamora's disappearance.  We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
