Three vehicle accident causes lane reduction on Rt. 121

MACON COUNTY - The Macon County Sheriff's Department says a traffic crash involving three cars on Illinois Route 121 resulted in lane reductions and delays Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities say at about 2:05 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a report of a traffic crash on Rt. 121, in the area of Hogan Road.  Members of the Mt. Zion Police Department, Mt. Zion Fire Department, and the Decatur Ambulance Service also responded to this incident.  Upon arriving, deputies determined that a 2007 Ford Taurus was traveling southbound on Rt. 121 when it crossed the center line and sideswiped a 2000 Lexus SUV that was traveling northbound.

After colliding, authorities say the driver of the Lexus lost control of the vehicle and went into a ditch, causing the SUV to overturn.  A 2003 Honda Accord that was traveling behind the Lexus sustained minor damage by the debris that was thrown into the air during the collision.

Deputies say the driver of the Lexus was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries and was released.  No other injuries related to this incident have been reported.  The driver of the Ford was given a citation for improper lane usage.

Authorities say there were lane reductions on Rt. 121 for about two hours while deputies investigated the crash and the scene was cleared.
