Lawmakers to hold hearing on IDHS program funding

SPRINGFIELD - State lawmakers say they plan on holding a hearing to discuss a shortage in a subsidized day care program's state funding.

Parents and day care providers are scheduled to voice their opinions during a hearing at the state Capitol Thursday morning.

According to Illinois Department of Human Services officials, nearly $300 million more is needed to fund the day care program through June 30, and they say delays in payment are expected to get longer, and services could be cut as a result.

IDHS officials say the problem stems from the state budget that lawmakers passed last year, as the $35.7 billion plan didn't give out enough money to pay for the program's expenses.
