IDNR accepting youth turkey hunting applications

Posted:
SPRINGFIELD - Illinois Department of Natural Resources officials say a $1.7 million federal grant will allow for additional access for youth turkey hunting throughout the state this spring.

Officials say the grant is from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service, and that this opportunity is being offered through the Illinois Recreational Access Program.

Hunters who have passed a hunter safety course and are under the age of 16 are eligible to participate.  IDNR officials say they are accepting applications to hunt on private land on sites in 28 counties, with the deadline to submit those applications being February 27.

For more information about this opportunity, or to submit an application, visit http://www.dnr.illinois.gov/Pages/default.aspx.
