State lawmaker's legal team reviewing executive order

SPRINGFIELD - An executive order that eliminates the need for non-union workers to pay union dues is being reviewed by the legal team of Illinois Senate President John Cullerton.

Governor Bruce Rauner issued the executive order on Monday.  Rauner says on average, a non-union state employee pays nearly $577 in "fair share" union fees every year.

However, other state lawmakers, including Cullerton, say they are unsure if Rauner can legally eliminate the fee.  Unions across the state are also challenging Rauner's executive order, stating they will work to reverse that order.
