Volunteers needed for Lake Shelbyville project

SHELBY COUNTY - The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are looking for volunteers to help with enhancing Lake Shelbyville's fisheries on March 7.

IDNR officials say donated Christmas trees and artificial porcupine structures will be placed into the lake, and that volunteers are needed to help bundle and place the trees.  Those who wish to volunteer are asked to by at the Wilborn Creek Recreation Area boat ramp parking lot at 8:45 a.m.  Volunteers will need to sign in, and work will begin at 9:00 a.m.

All volunteers will receive special aerial maps that won't be supplied to the general public, with coordinates detailing where the trees are placed, for future reference.  A free lunch will also be served after work is completed.

For more information on this project, contact Park Ranger Tyler Goble at (217) 774-3951 ext 7019 or IDNR Fishers Biologist Mike Mounce at (217) 345-2420.
