Urbana police investigate bank robbery

URBANA - The Urbana Police Department says they are investigating a bank robbery that occurred Friday morning.

Urbana police say at about 9:28 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Heartland Bank & Trust on the 1800 block of Philo Road for a report of a robbery.  Upon arriving, officers learned that the robber had already left.

Authorities say their initial investigation revealed that the suspect entered the bank using the west doors, revealed an apparent handgun, and demanded money.  An undisclosed amount of money was given to the suspect, who left the bank through the same doors shortly after.  Police say that it's not clear that the object the suspect had was a real firearm or not.  No injuries were reported.

Authorities also say that witnesses told officer that they saw the suspect jumping fences and heading toward The Pointe apartment complex.  A police canine followed the suspect's scent to the apartment complex.  It's not clear at this time if the suspect had stayed in the apartment complex or not.

Urbana police say the suspect is described as a female, about 20 years old, standing 5'4" to 5'5" with a thin build.  The suspect was wearing an orange hooded sweatshirt underneath a blue jacket, dark pants, and white-colored shoes.  We've included four still images from surveillance video of the suspect.
