Special Celebration Brings Rauner to Springfield Church
SPRINGFIELD - Governor Bruce Rauner made an appearance at a Springfield Church on Sunday. Members of First Presbyterian Church in Springfield invited him for a special service.
"I'm honored that the governor's here," said one of the church members.
It was an annual for celebration of Abraham Lincoln's Birthday. The sermon was about the late president and how his faith helped him move the nation toward a brighter future. The service focused on the need for unity among different cultures. Leaders at the church hope Governor Rauner will be able to bring people together.
"It's important that he embrace justice that Lincoln did, and the coming together," said Pastor Clifford Hayes. "It's very symbolic, today, that he's here. His warmth, I think, is an invitation for people to come together, and it's our hope that that's what will happen under his leadership."
