Champaign County coroner identifies woman struck by car

CHAMPAIGN - In an update to a story that WAND brought you last week, the Champaign County Coroner has identified a woman who died after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 72 on February 12.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup says the body has been identified as 55-year-old Marion Stoeger.  Authorities say at about 8:13 p.m., Stoeger entered the eastbound lanes of traffic on I-72 at Duncan Road, and was struck by Volkswagen vehicle.  Stoeger was pronounced dead at the scene at about 9:00 p.m.

Northrup says the preliminary cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma.  The final cause of death will be released after toxicology studies are finished.  Authorities say Stoeger's husband filed a missing person report with Champaign police on February 13.  After further investigation, it was determined that Stoeger was the previously unidentified woman from the February 12 incident.

We will provide more information on this story as it becomes available.
