Red Cross encouraging central Illinois residents to donate blood

Posted:
ILLINOIS - The American Red Cross is asking central Illinois residents to help patients in need by donating blood at one of several blood drives being held in March.

Red Cross officials say donors of all blood types are needed to ensure a reliable blood supply, especially donors with types O negative, A negative, and B negative.  Individuals who want to donate blood will need to provide a blood donor card or driver's license, or two other forms of identification at check-in.  In order to donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and must be in generally good health.  High school students, along with other donors 18 years old or younger, must meet additional height and weight requirements.
