Champaign school district helping kids prepare for kindergarten

CHAMPAIGN - Champaign Community Unit School District 4 officials have announced that they are partnering with Altrusa and McGraw-Hill to provide more than 800 kindergarten readiness bags to incoming families.

The bags will be distributed to families in May, before school starts this fall.  The readiness bags will be filled with books and other resources to prepare kindergarten students for their first day of school.  According to Assistant Superintendent Dr. Susan Zola, the readiness bags could provide students with "a considerable advantage when they enter school."

School district officials say the readiness bags will total more than $40,000, and that McGraw-Hill and Altrusa have helped with the cost of the bags.  Kindergarten readiness bags were first distributed in 2012-2013, when the school district, the Champaign Public Library, and Altrusa teamed up to help families.
