Northern Illinois man accused in multiple deaths pleads not guilty

ROCKFORD - An Illinois man facing multiple charges in connection with the deaths of four people, including two children, has entered a plea of not guilty.

Authorities say Calvin Carter, 22, pleaded not guilty to a 132-count bill of indictment, which includes charges of home invasion and first-degree murder.  Carter faces the charges in connection with the December 2014 deaths of Martia Flint, 24, Demontae Rhodes, 24, Tyrone Smith III, 6, and Tobias Smith, 4.

According to authorities, Flint, Flint's two sons, and Rhodes were found dead in an apartment in Rockford.  Authorities also say Carter was previously in a relationship with Flint, who prior to her death, had entered a relationship with Rhodes.
