SPRINGFIELD - Legislation that would increase the amount of clean energy purchased in Illinois has been introduced by state lawmakers.
On Thursday, the measure was announced by supporters, saying that the "clean jobs" bill would reduce carbon pollution and bring Illinois in line with new U.S. EPA standards.
According to State Representative Elaine Nekritz, the bill would call for Illinois' renewable energy standards to be increased to 35 percent by 2030. Illinois' current goal is 20 percent by 2025. Nekritz also says the measure would also create 32,000 jobs after those standards are implemented.
