EFFINGHAM - American Red Cross officials say they are offering two training classes for individuals who are interested in becoming Red Cross disaster relief volunteers.
The classes will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. on February 23 and March 24 in Effingham. The February 23 event will take place at the Effingham County Emergency Operations Center, and the March 24 event will take place a the Effingham City Main Fire Station training room.
Officials say the free classes will help participants learn how to prevent, prepare, and respond to emergencies and disasters in their community. Participants are not required to have any prior training or experience.
The class sizes for these events are limited to the first 20 people, and Red Cross officials say the classes cannot accommodate walk-ins. If both sessions fill up, a waiting list will be started, and additional classes will be scheduled.
To register for these classes, call (309) 222-5841, and ask for the Effingham "Disaster Services: An Overview" class.
