SPRINGFIELD - The Springfield Fire Department is investigating a fire that killed one person in Downtown Springfield Tuesday morning.
The fire took place at the Sangamon Towers Complex. Springfield Fire Chief Ken Fustin told WAND News one person died and two others were hurt in the fire. Firefighters say there was heavy smoke on the 5th floor of the complex.
Sangamon County Coroner Cinda Edwards has identified the deceased individual as 93-year-old Olive Cundiff. Edwards says an autopsy will be conducted on Tuesday.
The Springfield Fire Department Arson Division is investigating the the cause of the fire. We will provide more details as they become available.
