MOWEAQUA - Illinois State Police say four people have been injured in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Route 51 Monday night.
Authorities say their preliminary investigation shows that a Toyota Sienna van, driven by a 50-year-old woman and carrying two passengers, was traveling eastbound on Shelby County Road 2800N, where it failed to yield for a stop sign at U.S. 51. The van was then struck by a truck-tractor tanker trailer that was traveling southbound on U.S. 51 at the intersection of the two roads.
Illinois State Police say the four individuals involved with the crash were transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the incident. Authorities also say the driver of the van was also arrested and charged with several traffic violations, including driving under the influence of drugs.
Police say the investigation into this crash is ongoing. We will provide updates as they become available.
