New state program increases library services for autistic
SPRINGFIELD -- A new statewide program aims to increase library services for people with autism.
Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White and The Autism Program of Illinois are launching the statewide program, called "Targeting Autism". It's supported by a grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The program aims to collect solutions to address the support needs of autistic residents. Plans are to hold forums in Springfield in March and September to get your suggestions.
White's office says the forums will bring together national and regional autism experts and advocates to establish a strong network of libraries and communities.
White also says empowering libraries to better serve those with autism "requires this type of collaborative effort."
