Decatur- More than a million high school students experience physical abuse while in a relationship everyyear. One-in-ten teens have been purposefully hit by a boyfriend or girlfriend.
Because of those statistics, the Growing Strong Sexual Assault Center is spreading the word about building a healthy relationship during Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Growing Strong is a safe place serving multiple Central Illinois counties.
Educators go to junior high and high schools to teach students how to prevent physical and mental abusive relationships.
Prevention Education Coordinator Kim Spicer said, "Parents have a difficult time accepting that fact that children deal with abusive relationships."
