Voices for Illinois Children releases annual report
SPRINGFIELD - According to a report released by Voices for Illinois Children, budget cuts under Governor Bruce Rauner's state spending plan would negatively affect children who live in poverty.
The annual report, released by the group on Thursday, says that the proposed budget cuts would be "very harmful" to children. Director of Research at Voices of Illinois Children Larry Joseph says the proposed budget could push working parents deeper into poverty.
The report states that poverty among children in the state remains high. Officials say an estimated 21 percent of Illinois children lived in homes below the poverty level in 2013.
