Lawmaker introduces bill that would help veterans obtain prosthetics
SPRINGFIELD - A state lawmaker has introduced legislation that would help disabled veterans receive the prosthetics they need.
Under the proposal, sponsored by State Representative Sue Scherer, veterans would be provided with grants to update and replace their current prosthetics. The measure would also allow Illinois residents to help disabled veterans by letting them make tax-deductible donations on their individual income tax forms to the Veterans Prosthesis Fund.
Scherer says the proposal would help ensure that disabled veterans would have access to the care and assistance they need. Scherer adds that ensuring that disabled veterans can receive needed prosthetics "is something we should all strive for."
