SPRINGFIELD - The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office has announced the promotion of two correctional officers.

Sangamon County Sheriff Wes Barr says Correctional Officer John Kirby was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, and Correctional Officer Sergeant William Smith was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.  Barr says both Kirby and Smith have the experience, professionalism, and character that will make them great supervisors.

Kirby began his career at the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office in 1990, and has served as a classification officer since 1999.  Smith started at the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office in 1999, and received promotions in rank to Corporal in 2003, and to Sergeant in 2005.
