SPRINGFIELD - The Springfield Police Department has announced that it is investigating multiple shooting incidents that occurred Monday afternoon.

Springfield police say at about 2:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to St. John's Hospital to speak to an individual who had suffered gunshot wounds.  Upon arriving, police discovered the victim, identified at Michael Anderson, 33, had been received non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to his hand and midsection.  Police learned that Anderson was shot while he was in a vehicle at Martin Luther King Street and Brown Street, and that he drove himself to the hospital for treatment.

Springfield police say while officers were investigating the first shooting, a report of shots fired in the 2100 block of East Adams Street was received.  Officers were dispatched to the area at about 2:30 p.m., and found and stopped a vehicle leaving the area of Livingston Street and Beech Street.  Officers say they found that one of the vehicle's passengers, 22-year-old Herman Gales, had been shot in the foot.  Gales was then transported by ambulance to St. John's Hospital.

Authorities say the motives behind the shootings, as well as any relationship, if any, between them, is currently under investigation.  Springfield police say several individuals are in custody, but no official arrests in these incidents have been made.  If you have any information on these incidents, you are asked to call Springfield police.
