St. Teresa Set For Super-Sectional Showdown With Bloomington Central Catholic
DECATUR-- As the original March Madness approaches a crescendo, St. Teresa is one win away from its first trip to state in 28 years. To get there they'll have to get past Bloomington Central Catholic Tuesday in the 2-A super-sectional at UIS.
St. Teresa spent Monday afternoon practicing at Millikin, to get used to playing in a bigger venue. The Bulldogs hope tomorrow's result is different from the last time they played at UIS in a super-sectional. Former Illini Meyers Leonard and the Robinson Maroons beat the Bulldogs 81-60 in the 2010 super-sectional. It's a game current Bulldog Jake Handley remembers quite well.
"I was in 7th or 8th grade," said Handley. "I remember how many people were there. I'm just excited to play in front of that many people."
St. Teresa Senior Patrick Althoff knows quite a bit about Bloomington Central Catholic. He transferred from there a couple years ago, and still knows most of their players. The Saints beat the Bulldogs by 15 points earlier this season in a non-conference match-up. Althoff expects a different kind of game this time around.
"We didn't have Christian (Williams) that game," said Althoff. "We were a little bit down, and we had an OT game the night before so were a little worn out. This game should be different."
St. Teresa and Bloomington Central Catholic will tip off at 7 pm Tuesday night at UIS.
