Springfield zoo seeking volunteers for Frog Watch program

SPRINGFIELD - The Henson Robinson Zoo is looking for volunteers to help out in its Frog Watch USA chapter.

Frog Watch USA is a long-term frog and toad monitoring program, owned and managed by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.  Zoo officials say they are seeking volunteers who will monitor local wetland sites and identify local frog and toad species by their breeding calls.

Officials say the zoo's spring Frog Watch events will begin on March 20 with a family fun night, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  Participants will have a chance to enjoy frog-themed activities and learn about Frog Watch's importance in the community.

Officials also say two training classes will be offered for individuals who wish to volunteer in the Frog Watch program.  The first course will be offered on March 22 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., with a refresher course being offered on March 27 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. for participants who completed the first course.
