Illinois Baseball Scores Win in Home Opener


CHAMPAIGN -- Illinois starter Rob McDonnell scattered five hits over six shutout innings, and Illinois cruised to a 7-3 win over Chicago State Tuesday at Illinois Field.

It was game #16 for the Illini, but the first of the 2015 season in front of the home crowd.

Illinois ran out to a 7-0 lead thanks in part to a 3-for-4 day from second baseman Reid Roper. Roper also scored twice and had 2 RBI. DH Pat McInerney was 2-for-3 with 2 doubles, and 3 RBI.

Illinois (12-3-1) is ranked as high as 19th in one national poll ( They'll open a three-game home series against Southern Illinois on Friday
