SPRINGFIELD - Illinois Department of Agriculture officials have announced a special meeting for residents who wish to participate in the Illinois State Fairgrounds' seventh annual community garden on March 19.
The meeting will take place at the fairgrounds at 5:30 p.m., in the department auditorium inside gate 11. Participants will be able to learn requirements for the garden, as well as receive tips from University of Illinois Master Gardeners. The garden is expected to open on April 2, weather permitting.
Officials say 170 plots will be available at the garden this year. Each plot will cost $20, with an additional $10 charge if you wish to have the plot tilled. Those who take part in the garden will have access to compost, water, and tools, and will receive seeds free of charge from Syngenta and Rupp Seeds.
