Maggio receives 65 year sentence

URBANA – An Eastern Illinois man will spend more time in jail than originally thought.

Brian Maggio, 46, was resentenced Wednesday in Champaign County for shooting his brother to death in 2010.

Maggio pleaded guilty in 2011 and was originally sentenced to 35 years.

But on appeal, Maggio said his sentence was too light. It was a ploy to get a re-trial in hopes of getting a lighter sentence.

The effort failed when Judge Heidi Land decided to impose a 65-year sentence (30 more than he originally received).
