CHICAGO -- The Illinois men's basketball team saw their Big Ten Tournament run end earlier than expected, and in spectacular fashion on Thursday.
Michigan used a game-opening 14-2 run, and a 21-2 run at the end of the first half to sink the Illini 73-55 at the United Center.
Illinois got a team-high 13 points from sophomore guard Malcolm Hill, but contributions were slim elsewhere, as the Illini (19-13) shot just 7.7% from 3-point range.
Michigan, meanwhile, got a game-high 18 points from freshman guard Aubrey Dawkins, as the Wolverines advance to play top-seeded Wisconsin on Friday.
Illinois will not await their postseason fate, likely an NIT berth. They'll make an announcement on Sunday.
