CHAMPAIGN - Champaign police say an arrest has been made in connection with a report of shots fired made early Friday morning.

Authorities say Champaign police officers assisted Urbana police officers in responding to a report of shots fired in the 1500 block of Carver Drive.  Upon arriving, a Champaign police officer says a vehicle was spotted leaving the immediate area, and in response, police conducted an investigative stop.

Police say during the stop, a loaded .22 caliber handgun was found and recovered from the vehicle.  The vehicle's occupant, 28-year-old Willie Menifield, was subsequently arrested, and faces preliminary charges of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and no Firearms Owners Identification Card.
