Bulldogs Ride Stifling Defense into State Championship Game
PEORIA -- The St. Teresa boys are a win away from their first state championship in school history. This, after dispatching Rockridge 50-39 in the 2A state semifinal Friday night in Peoria.
Christian Williams scored 19 points to lead St. Teresa, but it was a defensive effort that kept Rockridge uncomfortable for most of the 32 minutes.
The Bulldogs held leads of 10-5 after a quarter, and 21-11 at half, holding Rockridge to 19% shooting (4-of-21) in the half. The best the Rockets could muster after that was a 9-3 run to end the third.
Still, St. Teresa held an 8-point lead after 3 quarters, and put the cold-shooting Rockets away late.
St. Teresa will be making the program's first state title appearance Saturday at 8:15pm at Carver Arena. They await the winner of Chicago-Uplift/Breese-Mater Dei matchup.
