Man takes his own life outside Champaign Police Department
CHAMPAIGN--It was a shocking scene outside the Champaign Police Department early Saturday morning, after an officer discovered a man shot to death in the parking lot, and the coroner says it was a suicide.
Around 1 AM, a receptionist at the police station says she noticed a car with its lights on in the parking lot, not moving for an unusually long amount of time.
An officer was sent to check on the vehicle, and it was then he found 38-year-old Chad Bidner of Mahomet locked inside the running car, dead of an apparent gunshot wound.
The department combed through security footage to confirm that no one else approached or left the vehicle between the time it was parked and when the officer was dispatched.
After further investigation, the coroner says Bidner's wound was self-inflicted.
At this time, Champaign police say there is no obvious connection between Bidner and the department.
