UPDATED: Coroner Identifies Man Involved in Fatal Train Crash
Alton- Crossing gates, bells and lights didn't prevent a vehicle from colliding with a train in Alton on Sunday.
Authorities say one person died when an Amtrak passenger train slammed into a pickup truck, while traveling at nearly 60 miles-per-hour. The person was identified by Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn as Henry Bloodworth, 80.
According to Bernie Sebold from the Alton Fire Department, "there were witnesses who did see the vehicle not brake and drive straight through the crossing arm and into the path of the train."
When crews were clearing away the wreckage, the mangled vehicle was still firmly wrapped around the front of the train. No one on board the train was hurt.
