Red Cross encouraging residents to donate blood

Posted:
CENTRAL ILLINOIS - American Red Cross officials are encouraging central Illinois residents to help make a difference in the lives of patients in need by donating blood at one of several events this April.

Officials say donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with O negative, A negative, and B negative blood types.  Those who are unable to give blood are encouraged to support blood donations, and invite others to donate by creating a virtual blood drive at www.redcrossblood.org/SleevesUp.

Those who wish to donate blood must have a blood donor card or driver's license, or two other forms of identification, must be 17 years of age or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, and must be in generally good health.  To make an appointment to donate, visit redcrossblood.org or call (800) 733-2767.
