CWLP officials encouraging customers to stop water leaks

SPRINGFIELD - City Water, Light and Power officials are encouraging central Illinois residents to help put a stop to household water leaks during "Fix a Leak" week.

According to CWLP Water Division Manager Ted Meckes, leaks can account for more than 10,000 gallons of water being wasted in an average home each year.  Officials estimate the amount of water that's wasted due to leaks at households to be more than 1 trillion gallons.  Fix a Leak Week is part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's "We're for Water" campaign, which is designed to educate consumers about the importance of water efficiency.

In order to help save water for the future, CWLP officials are encouraging customers to check, twist, and replace fixtures, connections, and pipes were leaks could occur.  For tips on fixing leaks around your home, you can visit http://www.epa.gov/watersense/our_water/howto.html.
