Anita Hill cancels University of Illinois appearance

URBANA - Another speaker has canceled her scheduled appearance at the University of Illinois due to a lawsuit that the university is facing from a professor whose job offer was rescinded.

Anita Hill was scheduled to give a lecture and the keynote address at a conference in April.  However, she says that Steven Salaita's lawsuit "erodes the possibility of the open conversation I had hoped to have."

Civil rights activist Cornel West also canceled his appearance at the University of Illinois' Urbana-Champaign campus, stating that rescinding Salaita's job offer is "a moral scandal."

Salaita originally received a job offer from the University of Illinois in late 2013.  However, the offer was withdrawn in 2014 after Salaita posted anti-Israel tweets.
