Local senior nutrition programs to participate in March for Meals

SPRINGFIELD - Senior Services of Central Illinois Senior Nutrition Program officials have announced that they will participate in the Meals on Wheels' 2015 March for Meals campaign.

March for Meals is a Meals on Wheels-sponsored national campaign held during March every year, and is designed to help raise awareness of the problems that some seniors have in obtaining proper nutrition, as well as encouraging action on the part of local communities.  Hundreds of Senior Nutrition Programs, such as SSCI's Daily Bread and Springfield Specialty Meals, take part in March for Meals through volunteer recruitment, fundraising efforts, public events, and partnerships with local businesses.

This year, officials say the Daily Bread and Springfield Specialty Meals March for Meals event will feature local celebrities delivering meals to seniors this week.  Officials also say that Sangamon County Sheriff Wes Barr will deliver lunch meals to homebound seniors on March 18, and that Springfield Ward 7 Alderman Joe McMenamin will deliver meals on March 20.
