Champaign police make arrest in shooting incident

CHAMPAIGN - Champaign police say one person has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident that happened during the early morning hours of March 18.

Authorities say at approximately 12:21 a.m., Champaign police officers were dispatched to the Circle K Gas Station, located at 1713 West John Street, for a report of a fight and possible shooting.  Upon arriving at the scene, officers say they saw Troy Mann, 34, at the scene, and four suspect offenders leaving the scene in their vehicle.

Champaign police say the vehicle was stopped, and officers say they found that one of the passengers had suffered a gunshot wound to his arm.  Medical units were called, and the shooting victim was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.  Mann was also treated at the scene for head injuries allegedly obtained during this incident.  After being cleared by medical personnel, Mann was arrested.

Champaign police say Mann faces preliminary charges of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and delivery of cannabis.  According to authorities, the initial investigation indicates that the parties met at the gas station to conduct a drug transaction, and that an argument began during the transaction, resulting in one person being shot.  Police also say three ounces of marijuana and two handguns were recovered at the scene.

This incident is still under investigation by the Champaign Police Department.  If anyone has additional information about this incident, they are urged to contact Champaign police at (217) 351-4545 or Crime Stoppers at (217) 373-8477.
