Springfield student's photography to be featured in national exhibit

SPRINGFIELD - A Springfield High School senior will have her photography featured across the country in a traveling exhibit sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.

Officials say Claire Martin's work will be featured in the exhibit for the next two years.  Martin has also received the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards American Visions Medal, and was one of only three winners in the state, and one of only five finalists in the region.

The photo that earned Martin the medal, titled "The Balancing Act," depicts a young woman standing on a mattress in the middle of a grocery store.  The photo is one in a series that explore the theme of women and all of their roles, as well as the idea that they are consumed with daily responsibilities that never go away, even when attempting to relax.

Students in grades seven through 12 can apply for Scholastic Art and Writing Awards in 28 categories.  Submissions are judged on originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.
