Caterpillar moving production lines from Joliet to Mexico
JOLIET - Caterpillar Inc. officials have announced that two production lines at its Joliet plant will be moved to Mexico.
Under the announced plan, production of gear and engine oil pumps will be moved from Joliet to a plant in Monterrey, Mexico. Officials say the transition is expected to last from last 2016 until the middle of 2018.
Officials also say the move will result in 230 jobs being lost at the Joliet plant. The move is part of a series of cuts at the factory. Currently, about 770 workers are employed at the Joliet facility, about 10% of the number of employees the plant had in the late 1970s.
