Mt. Zion business owners gear up for big weekend

MT. ZION - A push  to support small business  in Central Illinois.  This time that push is in Mt. Zion.  Saturday is when dozens of small business owners will congregate at the Mt. Zion Chamber Expo & Taste, but most of them spent Friday afternoon setting up at the Mt. Zion Convention Center.  Almost all of the companies are based in Mt. Zion.  Some  are located in Decatur.

"It's an opportunity for the Chamber members to have a display for their business, and promote their products," said Kyle Pflum, president of the Mt. Zion Chamber of Commerce.

The goal is to encourage consumers to buy local.

"The businesses have an opportunity to, you know, get their product and their service in front of the patrons and the community members, but also to network with each other, as to how they can help each other and support each other," said Pflum.

Many of the businesses will be selling products at a discounted price during the expo.

"We've had really good results of the number of people that are here to partake in the expo, as well as the success that the vendors have found from being part of the expo," said Pflum.

This year's expo will feature some extra entertainment.

"We're going to have two fashion shows, as well as a quartet that's going to be performing," said Pflum.

Local restaurants will be offering samples and admission is free.  The expo is Saturday at the Mt. Zion Convention Center.  Doors open at 9am and close at 2pm.
