Decatur Fire Department responds to Monday night fire

DECATUR - The Decatur Fire Department says one home was heavily damaged during a Monday night fire.

Authorities say at about 9:22 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of a house fire in the 1800 block of East Wood Street.  Upon arriving, firefighters entered the house and discovered that the floor had burnt away, revealing a basement fire.  Authorities say firefighters entered the basement through the rear of the building, and extinguished the fire.

Fire department officials say the house was vacant, and that no injuries were reported.  The structure sustained an estimated $20,000 in damage.  Officials also say the cause of this fire is still under investigation.
