Springfield officials announce grand opening of new playground

SPRINGFIELD - Springfield officials gathered at Lake Springfield's Center Park on Thursday for the grand opening of the new "Bounties of Nature" playground.

The playground, which city officials say is unlike any other in the area, opened at 10:00 a.m.  Springfield Mayor J. Michael Houston, CWLP Chief Utility Engineer Eric Hobbie, various project partnering organizations, kindergarten students from Lee School, and Henson Robinson Zoo Animals were in attendance.

Officials say the playground is being paid for with donations and grants from The Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln's Access to Recreation Endowment Fund, the Council of Lake Springfield Clubs, the Springfield Lake Shore Improvement Association, and the Illinois Elks Children's Care Corporation, as well as with Water Division funds set aside for park improvements.
