Northeastern Illinois man charged with first-degree murder

HUNTLEY - Northeastern authorities say a Huntley man faces a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the death of his wife.

Authorities say Edward Hartgraves, 64, was originally faced charges of violating an order of protection, aggravated domestic battery, and domestic battery in connection with an alleged incident that took place on March 20.  According to Huntley police, officers found Hartgraves' wife, Carol, bleeding from her chin in their home on Friday.

Huntley police also say that Carol was taken to the hospital, where she received treatment for a broken arm, as well as six stitches.  However, authorities say Carol died on Monday, while still receiving treatment for her injuries.

Officials say charges against Hartgraves were changed to first-degree murder after an autopsy was performed.  Hartgraves is currently being held at the McHenry County Jail on $5 million bond.
