1 injured in 2-vehicle Vermilion County crash

VERMILION COUNTY - Illinois State Police say one person was injured in a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 74 in Vermilion County Friday afternoon.

Authorities say the crash happened near mile post 218 on I-74 eastbound at about 2:41 p.m.  Police say a Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling in the left lane of the roadway, and a truck tractor pulling a flatbed trailer was traveling in the right lane.

Authorities say the preliminary traffic crash investigation revealed that the Mercury left the left side of the roadway, spun out of the grass median, reentered the eastbound lanes facing south, and struck the left drive tires of the truck tractor.  Police say after striking the tires, the Mercury spun backwards into the median, struck median cable barrier wires, and came to a stop.

Illinois State Police say the front end of the Mercury sustained heavy damage, and was towed from the scene.  The driver of the Mercury was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.  Police also say the driver of the Mercury was cited for driving on a suspended license, improper lane usage, and failure to reduce speed.

Authorities say the investigation into this crash is ongoing.
