Red Cross encouraging central Illinois residents to donate blood
CENTRAL ILLINOIS - American Red Cross officials are encouraging central Illinois residents to help make a difference in the lives of patients in need by donating blood at one of several events this April.
Officials say donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with O negative, A negative, and B negative blood types. In addition, donors may choose to make a double red blood cell donation. In the double red blood cell donation, twice as many red blood cells are collected in comparison to a regular appointment. However, this special kind of donation is only available at certain locations.
Those who wish to donate blood must have a blood donor card or driver's license, or two other forms of identification, must be 17 years of age or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, and must be in generally good health. To make an appointment to donate, visit redcrossblood.org or call (800) 733-2767.
