Macon County Sheriff's Office make arrest in alleged solicitation scam

MACON COUNTY - The Macon County Sheriff's Office says one woman has been arrested for allegedly participating in a solicitation scam.

Authorities say on March 31, several Oreana residents contacted the Macon County Sheriff's Office with reports of a woman traveling around the town, handing out flyers and asking for money for what she said was her sick child.  Authorities also say one resident was suspicious of the woman, took pictures of the vehicle she was driving, and shared them with the Sheriff's Office.

The Macon County Sheriff's Office shared the photos on social media, warning Macon County residents as well as asking for the public's help in identifying the woman.  Authorities say they were able to locate and identify the suspect as Decatur resident Trinity Schroeder, 37, thanks to tips from the public and from information taken from her social media accounts.

The Macon County Sheriff's Office says Schroeder was taken into custody at about 8:00 p.m. on April 1.  According to Macon County investigators, the sick child that Schroeder was allegedly attempting to solicit money for died in 2008.  Authorities say Schroeder faces a preliminary charge of theft by deception.

We will provide more details as they become available.
